Twaiku…
…is Twitter Haiku. Because 140 characters are ideal for haiku! as simple as that. Though it’s more like Twenryu to me! (Twitter + Senryu) hmmm… More Twaikus here.
This post is dedicated to Tymoor Sensei for teaching me how to compose Haiku, arigatou gozaimasu :)

Curiouser and curiouser…
I can’t wait for this Friday to come as we’re planning to go watch Tim Burton‘s new version of “Alice in wonderland” by Disney starring Johnny Depp as the mad hatter!! yay!
I’m so excited that I spent my night reading more about the novel and the old versions of the movie and came across this really really, i mean reeeeeaaally old Alice in wonderland movie by Cecil Hepworth that goes back to 1904 and it’s the first movie of Alice in wonderland and the longest British film that was produced at that time!
I also came across these vintage posters from later Alice in wonderland productions…
A 1931 black and white American film that’s considered the first sound version of the story, and therefore the first film to use Carroll’s original dialogue…

A French version from 1949…

And Walt Disney’s animated version from 1951 in which Alice sings the very famous “Golden Afternoon” song. You should try using that link on yooouuuyuuube.com to hear an electronical-experimental-version of that classic song (sometimes it doesn’t work so here‘s a low quality version of how it will sound like)…

A french version back from 1966…

A 1972 British musical…

A 1983 Japanese animated TV series which of course I watched in Arabic when i was little…
Another American version from 1985 (I don’t really like Alice in a red dress)…

Here’s the scene when she suddenly grows at the end of the movie and the Queen shouts her familiar “Off with her head!”…
A 1988 Australian animated version…

And finally, my favorite version of Alice in wonderland so far which i watched on Hallmark TV back in 1999…

In which Alice, the mock turtle and his friend the Gryphon sing one of my favorite songs “beautiful soup” which gets stuck in my head whenever I hear the word beautiful or soup! (fast forward to minute 4:40 to hear it), it reminds me of how me and my brother Ali used to try to hold “Beeeeeeeeauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutifullllll” when singing it as long as Alice and the characters do. Can you do it? hehe
Earth hour
Global events that unite the world as one really make me happy :)
especially when it’s for a good cause like earth hour…
“Repo Men”
My friend Ayah sent me a link for a company called The Union that sells highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs. I believed it was true until it turned out that, after charming us in Sherlok Holmes, Jude Law and his co-star Forest Whitaker, are two men working for that company and repossess those mechanical organs by slicing them out when their owners can’t pay up in the movie Repo Men, which will be released next month. And as the story revolves, Remy (Law) begins a one-man quest to take down the company in order to stay alive after he gets a meachnical heart due to an accident. I’m not a fan of movies with lots of blood, but the plot reminds me of of Minority Report, how the hunter becomes the hunted.
Let’s hope things won’t get like that in the future! yey!
“Body of Lies” full of lies!
And so I watched “Body of Lies” last night. Apart from the good laugh I had from hearing Leonardo Dicaprio speaking Arabic as well as all the goofs in the movie, it really annoyed me how Hollywood had gone too far with the stereotypical image of the contemporary Arab world that is portrayed in current western media!
I’m a Palestinian/Jordanian Arab Muslim and according to Ridley Scott and his smart colleagues I might be considered as the worst kind of enemy! Haha! I really couldn’t resist the urge to write about this… people like “Al-Saleem” (the Arabic Muslim “terrorist” in the movie) as well as al Qaeda, Bin Laden, Hamas… etc. are invented by the US government and Israel (with the help of the Arab leaders of course!) to serve Zionism and fool the Arabic youth. Such networks and groups act in the name of Islam (but they have nothing to do with it) and start looking for the poor, ignorant and naïve young men, they seduce them with lies and convince them that what they’re doing is Jihad, and that’s what they should do as Muslims. And that was evident in the movie.
Poverty and ignorance is the enemy’s weapon. Jihad has nothing to do with terrorism! This is what you should all know!
Now as for the goofs:
- Jordanian Intelligence building is similar to a spa resort!
- in the last minutes of the movie Leonardo Dicaprio (the CIA agent) starts giving lessons about Islamic morals to the terrorists! Damn that was really funny!
- What the hell was Aisha wearing on hair head when agent Ferris (Leonardo Dicaprio) came over her sister’s house for dinner? Is that a mini Hijab or something?
- The amount of men in the Jordanian streets wearing the traditional shmagh (a.k.a hatta) was funny too! I wish they still wear it in that amount! It’s almost extinct! I only see it nowadays on sissy guys who wear colorful shmagh because it’s à la mode!
- oh! And when the hell did couscous became a traditional Jordanian dish?!?! The whole world knows that it’s Moroccan! It seems that the economic crisis affected the research department in Hollywood!
According To CIA World Factbook Major Religion percentages: Christians: 33.32%, Muslims: 21.01%, Hindus: 13.26%, Buddhists: 5.84%…etc.
There are around 4,992,663,560 Muslims all around the world, of which there are 266,476,278 in the states itself. They’re your doctors, your professors, your friends, your colleagues… engineers, lawyers, pharmacists, teachers, artists, athletes… they’re normal people you meet everywhere! When will this east-west stupid conflict end? Khalas it’s getting boring! And most importantly, all these terrorist attacks that has been going on all around the world since September 11th affected us “Arabs” and “Muslims” as well!
